Diplomatisches Kaleidoskop – Eine Postkarte aus Schweden: I.E. Lourdes Victoria-Kruse Botschafterin der Dominikanischen Republik in Schweden (D & ENG)

Im Rahmen der neuen Rubrik “Diplomatisches Kaleidoskop” informiert Sie das Magazin Diplomacy and Commerce Austria jetzt in jeder Ausgabe darüber, was DiplomatInnen und BotschafterInnen machen und wo sie sich aufhalten, nachdem sie ihre Amtszeit in Österreich beendet haben.

Auf diese Weise schicken sie uns eine Art Postkarte von dem Ort, an dem sie jetzt leben und arbeiten und verraten uns, was ihnen fehlt, wenn sie an Wien denken.

Diplomatenposten dauern je nach Herkunftsland durchschnittlich vier Jahre, und wenn sie nicht zu ihrem Außenministerium in ihr Land zurückkehren, sind Umzüge in neue Länder und Städte ein fester Bestandteil der Diplomatie.

In dieser Ausgabe des DC Austria Magazins sprechen wir mit der ehemaligen Botschafterin der Dominikanischen Republik in der Republik Österreich, I.E. Lourdes Victoria-Kruse, derzeit Botschafterin der Dominikanischen Republik in Schweden, Norwegen, Finnland, Dänemark und der Slowakei, mit Sitz in Stockholm.

Im Februar ist es genau ein Jahr her, seit Sie das Mandat des Botschafters der Dominikanischen Republik im Königreich Schweden übernommen haben. Wie war es, Wien mit Stockholm zu ersetzen?

Zuallererst möchte ich mich bei Dir, Svetlana, für die großartige Gelegenheit bedanken, an deinem wichtigen Magazin mitschreiben zu dürfen. Um Deine Frage zu beantworten, möchte ich Dir sagen, dass ich mich für einen sehr praktischen Menschen halte. Ich verließ Österreich am Sonntagabend, des 28. Februars, in Richtung Stockholm. Am nächsten Tag, dem 1. März, begann ich meinen normalen Arbeitstag in der neuen Botschaft (heute vor genau einem Jahr). Die Versetzung von Wien nach Stockholm war anfangs nicht einfach, da die Dinge hier ganz anders funktionieren und ich fast zehn Jahre lang in Österreich war. Aber nach und nach fühle ich mich gut integriert.

Wie haben Sie sich im gesellschaftlichen Leben der schwedischen Hauptstadt zurechtgefunden und haben Sie Lieblingsorte, an denen Sie gerne spazieren gehen, am Abend ausgehen, Kaffee trinken oder Freunde zum Essen treffen?  Verraten Sie uns diese Orte?

Wie schon bekannt, hat die Pandemie unseren gesellschaftlichen Rhythmus völlig verändert, und obwohl die Maßnahmen in Schweden anders und sehr offen waren, kam ich mit anderen Gewohnheiten und natürlich mit Angst und Vorsicht, mich nicht anzustecken. Ich habe viele attraktive Orte gesehen, muss aber zugeben, dass ich sie immer noch nicht aufsuche.

Was ist Ihrer Meinung nach das Besondere an Schweden und gibt es etwas, dass Sie schon in Ihrem Alltag von den Schweden übernommen haben?

Stockholm ist eine wunderschöne Stadt! Die Schweden sind freundlich und informell. Das ist etwas, das zumindest uns Lateinamerikanern ein sehr angenehmes Gefühl gibt. Ich versuche immer, Land, Leute und Sitten kennenzulernen, um unsere Arbeit in diesem interessanten Land besser machen zu können. Ich liebe schwedisches Gebäck, Du kannst Dir vorstellen, wie sich diese Kalorien auswirken, aber zum Glück tragen wir oft Winterjacken. Ah, und ich finde es toll, dass die Geschäfte und Unternehmen sonntags geöffnet sind!

Wenn Sie an Wien denken, was kommt Ihnen zuerst in den Sinn, und was vermissen Sie am meisten an der österreichischen Hauptstadt?

Österreich hat einen ganz besonderen Platz in meinem Leben. Ich habe dort eine sehr wichtige Zeit verbracht und hatte das Privileg, zur Botschafterin meines Landes und zur Ständigen Vertreterin bei den Internationalen Organisationen, die dort ihren Sitz haben, ernannt zu werden. Die Ausübung meiner diplomatischen Funktion hinterlässt, wie Du Dir vorstellen kannst, eine einzigartige Erfahrung und Eindrücke, die unauslöschlich sind. Aus diesem Grund markiert Österreich ein Vorher und ein Nachher in meinem beruflichen Leben.

Aus Wien vermisse ich so viele Dinge: KollegInnen und Freunde, die Vereinten Nationen, die einzigartige Schönheit der Stadt, das super effiziente öffentliche Verkehrssystem, den Kaiserschmarrn, die Oper, den Musikverein, das Café Central, den Opernball, den wunderschönen Blick auf das Belvedere von meiner Wohnung aus… kurz gesagt, eine Menge. Zusammenfassend, möchte ich sagen, dass ich mich sehr privilegiert fühle, diese großartige Arbeitserfahrung in diesem großartigen Land, Österreich, gemacht haben zu dürfen.

Abgesehen von Schweden sind Sie akkreditierte Botschafterin der Dominikanischen Republik in Finnland, Norwegen und Dänemark. Wie sieht Ihr diplomatisches Engagement in all diesen Ländern aus?

Ja, ich bin auch akkreditierte Botschafterin der Dominikanischen Republik in Finnland, Norwegen und Dänemark, aber ich bin auch für die Slowakei akkrediert, obwohl die konsularischen Angelegenheiten aufgrund der geographischen Nähe  weiterhin von Österreich aus bearbeitet werden.

In diesem Jahr jährt sich die Aufnahme diplomatischer und konsularischer Beziehungen mit dem Königreich Schweden zum 80. Mal, und wir hatten das große Glück, vor kurzem unseren neuen diplomatischen Sitz im symbolträchtigen Mariahissen- Gebäude auf der Insel Sodermaln in Stockholm einweihen zu können.

Dies wird zu einer Stärkung der bilateralen Beziehungen mit Schweden und anderen Ländern in unserem Zuständigkeitsbereich führen. Die dominikanische Gemeinschaft, die in diesen Ländern lebt, ist eine Priorität der dominikanischen Regierung, weshalb wir mit verschiedenen dominikanischen  Vereinigungen in diesen Ländern zusammenarbeiten, um ihre Sorgen und Bedürfnisse zu erfahren.

Diplomatic Kaleidoscope – A postcard from Sweden: H.E. Lourdes Victoria-Kruse, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic in Swede

As part of the new “Diplomatic Kaleidoscope” section, the Diplomacy and Commerce Austria magazine now informs you in every issue about what diplomats and ambassadors do and where they are after they have completed their term of office in Austria. In this way they send us a kind of postcard from the place where they now live and work and tell us what they miss when they think of Vienna.

Diplomatic posts last an average of four years, depending on the country of origin, and when they don’t return to their country to their Foreign Office, relocations to new countries and cities are a regular part of diplomacy.

In this issue of DC Austria Magazine we speak to the former Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the Republic of Austria, I.E. Lourdes Victoria-Kruse, currently Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Slovakia, based in Stockholm.

In February it will be exactly one year since you took over the mandate of ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the Kingdom of Sweden. What was it like replacing Vienna with Stockholm?

First of all I would like to thank you Svetlana for the great opportunity to contribute to your important magazine. To answer your question, I want to tell you that I consider myself a very practical person. I left Austria for Stockholm on Sunday evening, February 28th. The next day, March 1st, I started my normal day at the new embassy (exactly one year ago today). The transfer from Vienna to Stockholm was not easy at first, as things work very differently here and I was in Austria for almost ten years. But gradually I feel well integrated.

How did you find your way in the social life of the Swedish capital and do you have favorite places where you like to go for a walk, go out in the evening, drink coffee or meet friends for dinner? Can you tell us these places?

As already known, the pandemic has completely changed our social rhythm and although the measures in Sweden were different and very open, I came with different habits and of course with fear and caution not to get infected. I have seen many attractive places, but I must admit that I still do not visit them.

In your opinion, what is special about Sweden and is there something that you have already adopted from the Swedes in your everyday life?

Stockholm is a beautiful city! Swedes are friendly and informal. This is something that, at least for us Latin Americans, makes us feel very comfortable. I always try to get to know the country, people and customs in order to be able to do our work better in this interesting country. I love Swedish pastries, you can imagine the impact of those calories, but luckily we often wear winter jackets. Ah, and I love that the shops and businesses are open on Sundays!

When you think of Vienna, what comes to mind first and what do you miss most about the Austrian capital?

Austria has a very special place in my life. I spent a very important time there and had the privilege of being appointed ambassador of my country and permanent representative to the international organizations based there. As you can imagine, the exercise of my diplomatic function leaves a unique experience and impressions that are indelible. For this reason, Austria marks a before and an after in my professional life.

I miss so many things from Vienna: colleagues and friends, the United Nations, the unique beauty of the city, the super efficient public transport system, the Kaiserschmarrn, the opera, the Musikverein, the Café Central, the Opera Ball, the beautiful view of the Belvedere from my apartment… in short, a lot. In summary, I would like to say that I feel very privileged to have had this great work experience in this great country, Austria.

Apart from Sweden, you are the accredited Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Finland, Norway and Denmark. What is your diplomatic engagement in all these countries?

Yes, I am also accredited Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Finland, Norway and Denmark, but I am also accredited to Slovakia, although due to the geographical proximity, consular affairs are still handled from Austria.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of diplomatic and consular relations with the Kingdom of Sweden and we were very fortunate to recently inaugurate our new diplomatic headquarters in the iconic Mariahissen building on the island of Sodermaln in Stockholm.

This will lead to a strengthening of bilateral relations with Sweden and other countries in our area of ​​responsibility. The Dominican community living in these countries is a priority of the Dominican government, which is why we work with various Dominican associations in these countries to learn about their concerns and needs.
