The Delegation of the Government of Catalonia to Central Europe hosted an institutional reception in Vienna on 10 September to mark Catalonia’s National Day, the Diada Nacional de Catalunya. The evening placed a particular emphasis on Catalonia’s position as an innovative business and investment destination and on strengthening economic ties with Central Europe. High-level representatives from politics, diplomacy, business and culture joined members of the Catalan community in Austria to exchange views on shared interests and explore new opportunities for cooperation.
A Ceremonial Opening with Diplomatic Remarks
At the beginning of the evening, Ms Krystyna Schreiber, Delegate of the Government of Catalonia to Central Europe, warmly welcomed the numerous guests with her opening remarks. This was followed by a gracious address by H.E. Aurora Mejía Errasquín, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain.

In her address, Krystyna Schreiber highlighted Catalonia’s role as an innovative and internationally oriented region:
“Catalonia has established itself as a leading Mediterranean hub for talent, research, technology, and entrepreneurship, attracting people and businesses from around the world. Yet Catalonia is about more than economic strength alone. It is the Catalan values of resilience, openness, solidarity, and creativity that have shaped the Catalonia of today. These values continue to lie at the very heart of our economic and innovation ecosystem.”
Schreiber also emphasised Catalonia’s contribution to a strong, democratic, united and competitive Europe, as well as the Delegation’s commitment to building bridges between Catalonia and Central Europe. She thanked the Delegation’s Central European partners for their longstanding, trusted and fruitful cooperation and acknowledged the commitment of the Catalan community. Shared values, open cooperation and sustainable prosperity, she stressed, are essential foundations for European cooperation at the regional level.
Distinguished Guests from Diplomacy, Politics and Business
Among the distinguished guests attending the reception was the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Austria, who thanked the Delegation for the invitation in Catalan, underscoring the strong cooperation between the Embassy and the Delegation.
The diplomatic corps was also represented by members of the embassies of the Republic, the Federal Republic of Germany, the United States of America, Georgia and the Republic of Cabo Verde. The General Representation of Flanders in Austria and Flanders Investment & Trade were also represented.
The reception furthermore brought together numerous representatives from Austrian politics and business, including members of the National Council and municipal councils, representatives of the Austrian Armed Forces, as well as representatives of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber and the Vienna Economic Chamber. Representatives of international organisations based in Vienna and various European and international institutions also attended the reception.
A particularly warm Benvinguts — “welcome” in Catalan — was extended to the Catalan community in Austria, as well as to the Delegation’s friends and partners.
Catalonia as a Hub for Innovation and Business
Alberto Martín, Director of Catalonia Trade & Investment, Catalonia’s economic development agency for the DACH region, presented Catalonia’s strengths as a business and investment destination to guests at the Diada reception in Vienna in a presentation entitled “Catalonia as a Business Location”.
The CUPRA Garage provided a fitting setting in which to showcase Catalonia as a dynamic European hub for technology, innovation and sustainable business. With its presence in the Austrian market and its focus on electric mobility, CUPRA also exemplifies the close connection between Catalonia’s innovation ecosystem and forward-looking technologies.
An Evening of Dialogue and Exchange
The reception also provided an opportunity to highlight the role of the Delegation of the Government of Catalonia to Central Europe as a key point of contact in the region — both for the Catalan community and Catalan stakeholders, as well as for Central European partners with an interest in Catalonia.
Working together with partners such as ACCIÓ, the Delegation contributes to strengthening existing ties while fostering new contacts, initiatives and opportunities for cooperation between Catalonia and Central Europe.
La Diada
The Diada Nacional de Catalunya is celebrated on 11 September. Beyond its historical significance, today it is also an expression of Catalan culture, identity and community. The Delegation serves as a point of contact for Catalans living in the region, whose engagement also makes them ambassadors of Catalan culture abroad.

KATALANISCHER NATIONALFEIERTAG IN WIEN: Kataloniens Innovationskraft und europäisches Engagement im Mittelpunkt
Die Delegation der Regierung von Katalonien für Mitteleuropa hat am 10. September in Wien einen institutionellen Empfang anlässlich des katalanischen Nationalfeiertags, der Diada Nacional de Catalunya, veranstaltet. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt des Abends lag auf Katalonien als innovativem Wirtschafts- und Investitionsstandort sowie auf der Vertiefung der wirtschaftlichen Beziehungen mit Mitteleuropa. Dabei kamen hochrangige Vertreter:innen aus Politik, Diplomatie, Wirtschaft und Kultur sowie Mitglieder der katalanischen Community in Österreich zusammen und tauschten sich über gemeinsame Interessen und neue Möglichkeiten der Zusammenarbeit aus.
Ein feierlicher Auftakt mit diplomatischen Grußworten
Zu Beginn des Abends wendete sich Delegierte der Regierung von Katalonien in Mitteleuropa Frau Krystyna Schreiber mit einer Begrüßungsrede an die zahlreichen Gäste, darauf folgte eine nette Rede von I.E. Aurora Mejia Errasquin, Botschafterin des Königsreichs Spanien.
In ihrer Ansprache unterstrich Krystyna Schreiber die Rolle der Region Katalonien als innovativer und international ausgerichteter Standort:
„Katalonien hat sich zu einem führenden mediterranen Zentrum für Talente, Forschung, Technologie und Unternehmertum entwickelt und zieht Menschen und Unternehmen aus aller Welt an. Doch Katalonien steht für mehr als nur Wirtschaft. Es sind die katalanischen Werte wie Resilienz, Offenheit, Solidarität und Kreativität, die das Katalonien von heute geprägt haben. Und sie stehen weiterhin im Zentrum unseres Wirtschafts- und Innovationsökosystems.“
Schreiber betonte zugleich Kataloniens Beitrag zu einem starken, demokratischen, geeinten und wettbewerbsfähigen Europa sowie das Engagement der Delegation für den Brückenbau zwischen Katalonien und Mitteleuropa. Zugleich dankte die Delegierte den mitteleuropäischen Partner:innen für die langjährige, vertrauensvolle und fruchtbare Zusammenarbeit und würdigte das Engagement der katalanischen Community. Gemeinsame Werte, offene Zusammenarbeit und nachhaltiger Wohlstand seien zentrale Grundlagen für die europäische Zusammenarbeit auf regionaler Ebene.
Ehrengäste aus Diplomatie, Politik und Wirtschaft
Zu den Ehrengästen des Empfangs zählten die Botschafterin des Königreichs Spanien in Österreich, die sich auf Katalanisch für die Einladung bedankte und damit die gute Zusammenarbeit mit der Delegation unterstrich. Aus dem diplomatischen Corps waren außerdem Vertreter:innen der Botschaften der Republik, der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika, Georgiens und der Republik Kap Verde. Ebenfalls anwesend waren die Generaldelegation Flanderns für Österreich sowie die Wirtschafts- und Handelsvertretung Flandern. Darüber hinaus waren zahlreiche Vertreter:innen der österreichischen Politik und Wirtschaft anwesend, darunter National- und Gemeinderät:innen sowie Vertreter des österreichischen Bundesheeres, Vertreter:innen der Wirtschaftskammern Österreich und Wien. Auch Vertreter:innen internationaler Organisationen in Wien sowie verschiedener europäischer und internationaler Institutionen nahmen am Empfang teil.
Ein besonders herzliches Benvinguts (Willkommen auf Katalanisch) galt der katalanischen Community in Österreich sowie den Freund:innen und Partner:innen der Delegation.
Katalonien als Innovations- und Wirtschaftsstandort
Alberto Martín, Direktor von Catalonia Trade & Investment, der katalanischen Wirtschaftsagentur für die DACH-Region, stellte unter dem Titel „Catalonia as a Business Location“ die Stärken Kataloniens als Wirtschafts- und Investitionsstandort den Gästen der Diada in Wien, vor.
Die CUPRA Garage bot als Veranstaltungsort einen passenden Rahmen, um Katalonien als dynamischen europäischen Standort für Technologie, Innovation und nachhaltiges Wirtschaften zu präsentieren. Mit ihrer Präsenz auf dem österreichischen Markt und ihrem Fokus auf Elektromobilität unterstreicht CUPRA zugleich die Verbindung zwischen Kataloniens Innovationsökosystem und zukunftsorientierten Technologien.
Ein Abend des Dialogs und der Begegnung.
Der Empfang bot zugleich Gelegenheit, die Rolle der Delegation der Regierung von Katalonien in Mitteleuropa als Ansprechpartnerin vor Ort hervorzuheben – sowohl für die katalanische Gemeinschaft und katalanische Akteure in der Region als auch für mitteleuropäische Partner mit Interesse an Katalonien. In Zusammenarbeit mit Partnern wie ACCIÓ trägt die Delegation dazu bei, bestehende Verbindungen zu pflegen und neue Kontakte und Initiativen zwischen Katalonien und Mitteleuropa zu fördern.
La Diada
Die Diada Nacional de Catalunya wird am 11. September begangen. Über ihre historische Bedeutung hinaus ist sie heute ein Ausdruck katalanischer Kultur, Identität und Gemeinschaft. Die Delegation ist dabei Ansprechpartnerin für Katalaninnen und Katalanen vor Ort, die durch ihr Engagement zugleich als Botschafter katalanischer Kultur im Ausland wirken.
