Empfang in der Residenz des Großherzogtums Luxemburg in Wien
Anlässlich des Nationalfeiertages des Großherzogtums Luxemburg lud S.E. Jean Graf, Botschafter des Großherzogtums Luxemburg in der Republik Österreich, am Dienstag, dem 23. Juni, zu einem festlichen Empfang in den Garten der luxemburgischen Residenz in Wien ein. Die Veranstaltung bot zugleich den Rahmen für einen besonderen Moment: den Abschied des Botschafters von seiner diplomatischen Mission in Österreich.
Würdigung der engen Beziehungen zwischen Luxemburg und Österreich
In seiner Ansprache zum Nationalfeiertag hob Botschafter Jean Graf die ausgezeichneten und freundschaftlichen Beziehungen zwischen Luxemburg und Österreich hervor. Zugleich nutzte er die Gelegenheit, sich von seinen Kolleginnen und Kollegen aus dem Diplomatischen Korps sowie von zahlreichen Wegbegleitern und Freunden zu verabschieden.
Der traditionelle Mittagsempfang fand bei hochsommerlichen Temperaturen statt. Dennoch sorgten der weitläufige Garten der Residenz und die schattenspendenden Bäume für eine angenehme Atmosphäre und boten den Gästen eine willkommene Erfrischung während der Hitzewelle, die weite Teile Europas erfasst hatte.

Abschied von Botschafter Jean Graf
Auf Wiedersehen, lieber Jean!
Der diesjährige Nationalfeiertagsempfang stand ganz im Zeichen des Abschieds von Botschafter Jean Graf. Er trat sein Amt als Botschafter des Großherzogtums Luxemburg in Österreich am 22. August 2022 an und prägte während seiner Amtszeit die bilateralen Beziehungen durch großes Engagement und persönliche Verbundenheit.
Nach einer erfolgreichen diplomatischen Laufbahn, die sich über nahezu drei Jahrzehnte erstreckt, wird Jean Graf Wien bereits in diesem Sommer verlassen und in seine Heimat Luxemburg zurückkehren. Dort wird er künftig im Außenministerium des Großherzogtums Luxemburg eine neue Aufgabe übernehmen und seine langjährige Erfahrung weiterhin in den Dienst der Diplomatie stellen.

Reception at the Residence of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Vienna
On the occasion of the National Day of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, H.E. Jean Graf, Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to the Republic of Austria, hosted a festive reception in the garden of the Luxembourg Residence in Vienna on Tuesday, 23 June. The event also marked a special and emotional occasion—the Ambassador’s farewell at the conclusion of his diplomatic mission in Austria.
Celebrating the Strong Ties Between Luxembourg and Austria
In his National Day address, Ambassador Jean Graf highlighted the excellent and longstanding friendship between Luxembourg and Austria, underlining the close cooperation and mutual understanding that characterize relations between the two countries. He also took the opportunity to bid farewell to his colleagues from the Diplomatic Corps, as well as to the many partners, friends, and companions who accompanied him throughout his tenure in Vienna.
The traditional luncheon reception took place under exceptionally warm summer temperatures. Nevertheless, the spacious garden of the Residence and its mature trees provided a pleasant and welcoming setting, offering guests a refreshing retreat from the heatwave that has affected large parts of Europe.
Farewell to Ambassador Jean Graf
Goodbye, Dear Jean!
This year’s National Day reception was particularly marked by the farewell to Ambassador Jean Graf. He assumed his post as Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to Austria on 22 August 2022 and, throughout his tenure, made a significant contribution to strengthening bilateral relations through his dedication, professionalism, and personal commitment.
Following a distinguished diplomatic career spanning nearly three decades, Ambassador Graf will leave Vienna this summer and return to his homeland, Luxembourg. There, he will take on a new role within the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, continuing to place his extensive experience at the service of diplomacy.
The editorial team of Diplomacy & Commerce Austria would like to take this opportunity to express its sincere gratitude to H.E. Jean Graf for the excellent cooperation over the years and to wish him good health, happiness, and every success in his future personal and professional endeavors.
