Wien, 4. Juni 2026 – Am österreichischen Feiertag Fronleichnam wichen Formelle Anzüge, strenge militärische Protokolle und intensive Diskussionen in der Wiener Hofburg wichen am Donnerstag, dem 4. Juni 2026, für einige Stunden einer entspannten Atmosphäre, herzlichem Austausch und geselligem Beisammensein. Militärberater bei der OSZE sowie ihre Familien kamen zu einem mittlerweile traditionellen Frühlings-Gartenfest im idyllischen Ambiente des Wiener Schweizergartens zusammen.
Das Besondere an dieser Veranstaltung liegt in ihrer gemeinsamen Organisation. Gastgeber und Initiatoren des erfolgreichen Treffens waren die Militärberater aus sechs Ländern der Region: Bosnien und Herzegowina, Montenegro, Kroatien, Nordmazedonien, Slowenien und Serbien. Nach einem arbeitsreichen Vormittag mit Beratungen und Gesprächen in den historischen Räumlichkeiten der Hofburg bot das Treffen eine willkommene Gelegenheit für persönliche Begegnungen und informellen Austausch.
Bereits zum zweiten Mal in Folge organisierte diese Gruppe von Militärberatern ein Frühlingsfest für ihre Kolleginnen und Kollegen sowie deren Familien. Die Premiere fand im vergangenen Jahr im Wiener Prater statt. Angesichts der hervorragenden Resonanz im Vorjahr und der nochmals gestiegenen Teilnehmerzahl sowie der durchweg positiven Rückmeldungen der Gäste in diesem Jahr ziehen die Organisatoren eine äußerst positive Bilanz.
Die Veranstaltung verdeutlichte einmal mehr, dass vertrauensvolle Beziehungen und nachhaltige Kooperationen häufig außerhalb offizieller Sitzungsräume entstehen. Viele der Teilnehmer betonten den besonderen Wert solcher informellen Begegnungen für die internationale militärische Zusammenarbeit und den zwischenmenschlichen Austausch.
Alles deutet darauf hin, dass sich dieses Frühlings-Gartenfest als fester Bestandteil im Kalender der Militärberater in Wien etablieren wird – als Tradition, die Zusammenarbeit, Freundschaft und Gemeinschaft über nationale Grenzen hinweg fördert und die menschliche Seite der internationalen Militärdiplomatie sichtbar macht.
Zu den Gästen der diesjährigen Veranstaltung zählte auch Generaloberst Gojko Knežević, Chef des Gemeinsamen Stabes der Streitkräfte von Bosnien und Herzegowina und ranghöchster Offizier des Landes. Der Generaloberst hielt sich aus dienstlichen Gründen in Wien auf und unterstrich mit seiner Teilnahme seine Verbundenheit und Unterstützung für die Angehörigen der internationalen Militärdiplomatie.
Das Frühjahrstreffen bot damit nicht nur Raum für Begegnungen und Gespräche, sondern setzte auch ein sichtbares Zeichen für Kollegialität, Solidarität und partnerschaftliche Zusammenarbeit innerhalb der internationalen Militärgemeinschaft in Wien.

Military Diplomacy Beyond Protocol: Traditional Spring Gathering of Military Advisers in Vienna
Vienna, 4 June 2026 – On the Austrian public holiday of Corpus Christi, formal suits, strict military protocols and intensive discussions at Vienna’s historic Hofburg Palace gave way, for a few hours, to a relaxed atmosphere, friendly conversations and informal networking. Military advisers accredited to the OSCE, together with their families, gathered for what has become a traditional Spring Garden Party in the picturesque setting of Vienna’s Schweizergarten.
What makes this event particularly unique is its joint organization. The hosts and initiators of the successful gathering were military advisers from six countries of the region: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, North Macedonia, Slovenia and Serbia. Following a busy morning of consultations and meetings within the walls of the Hofburg, the event once again demonstrated that some of the strongest diplomatic and professional ties are often built outside formal conference rooms.
For the second consecutive year, this group of military advisers organized a spring gathering for their colleagues and family members. The inaugural event was held last year in Vienna’s Prater Park. Encouraged by the excellent attendance and positive feedback received in 2025, organizers were pleased to see an even larger turnout and overwhelmingly favorable reactions from guests this year.
The gathering highlighted the importance of informal engagement in fostering trust, strengthening professional relationships and promoting international military cooperation. Many participants emphasized the value of such occasions in encouraging dialogue and personal connections among members of Vienna’s international military and diplomatic community.
All indications suggest that the Spring Garden Party is set to become a well-established tradition among military advisers in Vienna—a tradition that celebrates cooperation, friendship and solidarity across national borders while showcasing the human dimension of international military diplomacy.
Among the distinguished guests was Lieutenant General Gojko Knežević, Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the highest-ranking military officer in the country. Visiting Vienna on official business, Lieutenant General Knežević underscored his support for the international military diplomatic community through his presence at the event.
More than just a social gathering, the Spring Garden Party served as a visible expression of collegiality, solidarity and partnership within Vienna’s international military community, reaffirming the importance of personal connections in strengthening cooperation among nations.
