Während Europas Industrielandschaft den tiefgreifendsten Wandel seit Jahrzehnten erlebt, entwickelt sich die Fähigkeit nationaler Volkswirtschaften, Innovation, Industrie und öffentliche Politik wirkungsvoll zu verknüpfen, zu einem entscheidenden Wettbewerbsfaktor. In der Slowakei begegnet man dieser Herausforderung mit dem EIT Manufacturing-Slovakia-X-Fund – einer gemeinsamen Initiative zur Stärkung industrieller Innovationskraft, zur Beschleunigung der Digitalisierung und zur engeren Einbindung des Landes in das europäische Fertigungsökosystem. Welche strategische Bedeutung dieser Ansatz bereits heute entfaltet, zeigte sich zuletzt auf der Konferenz „Digital Horizons Slovakia 2025“ in Bratislava, bei der VertreterInnen aus Politik, Wirtschaft und Forschung diskutierten, wie koordinierte Investitionen und grenzüberschreitende Zusammenarbeit industrielle Ambitionen in konkrete Realität übersetzen können.

Der EIT Manufacturing-Slovakia-X-Fund wurde 2023 als gemeinsames Programm des Ministeriums für Investitionen, regionale Entwicklung und Informatisierung der Slowakischen Republik (MIRRI) und EIT Manufacturing East ins Leben gerufen. Seither hat er sich zu einer ambitionierten und umfassenden Initiative entwickelt, die darauf abzielt, die Innovationsfähigkeit zu stärken, die industrielle Wettbewerbsfähigkeit auszubauen und die Slowakei enger an Europas Innovationslandschaft anzubinden. In den Jahren 2024 und 2025 flossen die Mittel des Fonds in sieben strategische Arbeitspakete, die gezielte Unterstützung für Startups und KMU, grenzüberschreitende Lern- und Forschungsmobilität, einen strukturierten Innovationstransfer aus europäischen Industrieökosystemen sowie den systematischen Aufbau von Kapazitäten im öffentlichen Sektor ermöglichten.

Auf der Konferenz „Digital Horizons Slovakia“ am 10. Dezember 2025 kamen in Bratislava politische EntscheidungsträgerInnen, BranchenvertreterInnen, ForscherInnen und InnovatorInnen zusammen, um zu reflektieren, wie der EIT Manufacturing-Slovakia-X-Fund bereits eine langfristige Transformationsagenda für die Fertigungsindustrie des Landes prägt. Die Veranstaltung diente dabei nicht nur als Austauschforum, sondern als nationale Plattform zur Einordnung der bisherigen Wirkungen, zur Diskussion konkreter Beispiele digitaler Umsetzung und zur Vernetzung jener Akteure, die die künftige Entwicklung der Slowakei maßgeblich mitgestalten.

In seiner Eröffnungsrede unterstrich Johannes Hunschofsky, Geschäftsführer von EIT Manufacturing East, die zentrale Rolle der Zusammenarbeit zwischen Politik, Wissenschaft, Industrie und Startup-Community für nachhaltige Transformation und verwies dabei auf die bereits erzielten Erfolge des EIT Manufacturing-Slovakia-X-Fund.

Innovationstransfer in die industrielle Realität umsetzen

Einer der greifbarsten Mehrwerte des Fonds liegt in seiner Fähigkeit, bewährte europäische Industrielösungen gezielt in slowakische Unternehmen zu transferieren. Die KI-gestützte Inspektionsplattform von DENKweit für eine schnellere und intelligentere Qualitätskontrolle, die Augmented-Reality-Lösung von AMPLI zur Unterstützung der Formeneinstellung in der Kunststoffverarbeitung oder IVE – Prescriptive Production Assistant, ein KI-Tool zur Echtzeit-Empfehlung von Korrekturmaßnahmen in der Fertigung, stehen exemplarisch für Technologien, die europaweit bereits erfolgreich eingesetzt werden und nun auch slowakischen Betrieben offenstehen.

Im Rahmen seiner Aktivitäten stellt EIT Manufacturing damit eine kuratierte Auswahl konkreter und übertragbarer Best Practices für digitale und nachhaltige Produktion bereit und zeigt praxisnah auf, wie slowakische Unternehmen erprobte Lösungen effizient in ihre bestehenden Betriebsabläufe integrieren können.

EIT Manufacturing-Slovakia-X-Fund: Accelerating Innovation and Industrial Transformation

As Europe’s industrial landscape undergoes its most profound transformation in decades, the ability of national economies to connect innovation, industry and public policy is becoming a decisive competitive factor. Slovakia addressed this challenge through the EIT Manufacturing-Slovakia-X-Fund, a joint initiative designed to strengthen industrial innovation, accelerate digital adoption and anchor the country more firmly within Europe’s manufacturing ecosystem. Its impact was recently highlighted at Digital Horizons Slovakia 2025 conference in Bratislava, where stakeholders reflected on how coordinated investment and cross-border collaboration can translate ambition into industrial reality.

Established in 2023 as a joint programme of the Ministry of Investment, Regional Development and Informatization of the Slovak Republic (MIRRI) and EIT Manufacturing East, the EIT Manufacturing-Slovakia-X-Fund has emerged as an ambitious and comprehensive initiative for fostering innovation capacity, strengthening industrial competitiveness and connecting Slovakia more closely to Europe’s innovation landscape. Throughout 2024 and 2025, the fund channeled resources into seven strategic work packages providing targeted support for startups and SMEs, cross-border learning and research mobility, structured innovation transfer from European industrial ecosystems, and public sector capability building.

At the Digital Horizons Slovakia conference on 10 December 2025, policymakers, industry leaders, researchers and innovators gathered in Bratislava to reflect how the EIT Manufacturing-Slovakia-X-Fund has begun to shape a long-term transformation narrative for the country’s manufacturing industry. The conference offered a national platform to evaluate impact, examine real examples of digital adoption and connect stakeholders shaping the country’s future development path.

In his opening remarks, Johannes Hunschofsky, Managing Director of EIT Manufacturing East, emphasised the importance of collaboration between government, academia, corporates and the startup community in driving long-term transformation, highlighting the achievements of the EIT Manufacturing-Slovakia-X-Fund.

Turning innovation transfer into industrial reality

One of the fund’s most tangible contributions is its ability to bring proven European industrial solutions directly to Slovak companies. DENKweit’s AI-powered inspection platform for smarter and faster quality control, AMPLI’s augmented-reality solution for mold-setting in plastics manufacturing, or IVE – Prescriptive Production Assistant, an AI tool that recommends corrective shop-floor actions in real time, are just some of the technologies that are already implemented across Europe and now made accessible to Slovak firms.

Within the fund’s activities, EIT Manufacturing offers a selection of concrete, transferable best practices of digital and sustainable manufacturing, demonstrating how Slovak companies can integrate proven solutions into their operations.
