Wien ist eine der wenigen Metropolen der Welt, die den Juni zum Monat der LGBT-Rechte erklärt hat, und so kam es, dass im Pride Monat, angefangen vom 1. Juni, viele verschiede Events in Wien stattgefunden haben.
Es gab ein breites Programm, von einem Film Festival, Vorlesungen und Bucherpräsentationen über verschiedene Work Shops – wie “Somewhere over the rainbow” (Workshop für Kinder) – und “Drag Queen und Drag King Work Shops”, über informative Veranstaltungen wie das “Gleichstellungs- und Diversitätsmanagement”, organsiert von Arbeitsmarktservice Wien (AMS) bis zu zahlreichen Podiumsdiskussionen wie über die “Trans Elternschaft” und vieles mehr.
Nach dem erfolgreichen Start im Jahr 2018 machen inzwischen sehr viele Wiener beim sehr populären “Pride Run Vienna” in der Praterhauptallee mit, wobei viele Vereine, Firmen, Schulgruppen, Familien, Freund*innen, Kolleg*innen, Angehörige und Sportler*innen für die Akzeptanz von LGBTIQ-Personen laufen.
Im Rahmen des Pride Monats fanden auch Veranstaltungen die sich mit Medizin und Gesundheit beschäftigen statt: Vorträge über das Thema “Sexuell übertragbare Krankheiten”, “Physische Gesundheit” bei den Mediacal Days, sowie ein Interview mit Dr.in med. univ. Urlike Kaufmann, Leiterin der der Wiener Transgender-Ambulanz (AKH), Pride Specials und Gratis-Testungen, organsiert von der AIDS Hilfe Wien.
Für Kunstliebhaber waren verschiedene Ausstellungen innerhalb des “Pride Specials in den Museen der Vielfalt” organisiert, wobei am kreativsten und engagiertesten das Kunsthistorische Museum, die Alberina und das Mumok (Musem moderner Kunst) waren.
Entspannung und Spaß durften jedoch nicht fehlen, so dass Partys wie “Vienna Beach Day” und “Pool Day” sowie zahlreiche und ausgefallene Themen-Events in der Club-Szene Wiens stattgefunden haben.
Die wichtigste Aufgabe des Pride Monats darf jedoch nicht vergessen werden…
Die Regenbogenparade ist eine wichtige politische Demonstration für die Rechte von lesbischen, schwulen, bisexuellen, transgender, intergeschlechtlichen und queeren Menschen.
In diesen 26 Jahren hat die Vienna Pride dazu beigetragen, Toleranz unter den Menschen zu verbreiten, die unbegründete Angst vor Personen aus der LGBTIQ+-Community zu beseitigen und die sichtbare Präsenz der schwulen Community im Alltag zu ermöglichen.
Diplomaten für Gleichberechtigung
Auch Vertreterinnen und Vertreter des Diplomatischen Korps in Wien sind jedes Jahr bei die Regenbogenparade dabei und leisten ihren Beitrag für die Gleichstellung und unterstützten die LGBTIQ+-Community in Wien mit persönlichem Engagement.
So trafen sich Diplomat*innen auf dem Ring und marschierten gemeinsam mit den restlichen Teilnemer*Innen für den guten Zweck mit einem Transparent mit der Aufschrift “Diplomats for equality” (Diplomaten für Gleichberechtigung) in Richtung Burgtheater und Rathausplaz wo die Parade zu Ende ging.
Durch ihre persönliche Anwesenheit bei der Parade machten folgende Botschafter*Innen, die sich zum Gunsten der LGBTIQ+-Gemeinschaft engagierten, darauf aufmerksam: I.E. Lindsay Skoll, die Botschafterin Ihrer britischen Majestät, S.E. Troy Lulashnyk, Botschafter von Kanada, I.E. Victoria Reggie Kennedy, Botschafterin der Vereinigten Staaten, S.E. Eoin O´Leary, Botschafter von Irland, I.E. Natasha Meli Daudey, Botschafterin von Malta, I.E. Annika Markovic, Botschafterin vom Königreich Schweden, I.E. Cristina Fraile Jimenez de Munana, Botschafterin vom Königreich Spanien, I.E. Barbara Žvokelj, Multilaterale Botschafterin von Slowenien, I.E. Belen Constanza Mundoz de la Pena, Botschafterin von Chile , Katrina Kaktina, Multilaterale Botschafterin von Lettland…
Die Botschaften von Israel, Finnland, Australien, Mexiko, Zypern, der Ukraine und der Schweiz hatten ebenfalls ihre Diplomaten bei der “Regenbogen Parade” dabei, gemeinsam mit Diplomaten vom UN Globe und Offene Liste des Außenministeriums nahmen ebenfalls teil.

26th Vienna Rainbow Pride supported by diplomats for equal rights
Vienna is one of the few metropolises in the world that declared June as LGBTIQ+ Rights Month, and so it happened that in Pride Month, starting from June 1st, many different events took place in Vienna.
There was a wide program, from a film festival, lectures and book presentations to various workshops – such as “Somewhere over the rainbow” (workshop for children) – and “Drag Queen and Drag King workshops”, to informative events such as the “Equality – and diversity management”, organized by the Vienna Public Employment Service (AMS) to numerous panel discussions such as “Trans parenthood” and much more.
After the successful start in 2018, many Viennese are now taking part in the very popular “Pride Run Vienna” on Praterhauptallee, with many clubs, companies, school groups, families, friends, colleagues, relatives and athletes taking part in the acceptance of LGBTIQ+ people.
Events dealing with medicine and health also took place as part of the Pride Month: Lectures on the subject of “Sexually Transmitted Diseases”, “Physical Health” at the Mediacal Days, and an interview with Dr.in med. univ. Urlike Kaufmann, Head of the Vienna Transgender Ambulance (AKH), Pride Specials and free tests, organized by AIDS Help Vienna.
Various exhibitions were organized for art lovers within the “Pride Specials in the Museums of Diversity”, with the most creative and committed being the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Alberina Museum and the Mumok (museum of modern art).
However, relaxation and fun were not to be missed, so that parties such as “Vienna Beach Day” and “Pool Day” as well as numerous and unusual themed events took place in Vienna’s club scene.
The most important task of Pride Month must not be forgotten…
The Rainbow Pride is an important political demonstration for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer people.
In these 26 years, Vienna Pride has helped to spread tolerance among people, eliminate unfounded fear of people from the LGBTIQ+ community and enable the visible presence of the gay community in everyday life.
Diplomats for Equality
Representatives of the diplomatic corps in Vienna also take part in the rainbow pride every year and make their contribution to equality and support the LGBTIQ+ community in Vienna with personal commitment.
So diplomats met on the ring and marched together with the other participants for a good cause with a banner reading “Diplomats for equality” (diplomats for equal rights) in the direction of the Burgtheater and Rathausplaz, where the parade ended.

The embassies of Israel, Finland, Australia, Mexico, Cyprus, Ukraine and Switzerland also had their diplomats with them in the “Rainbow Pride”, along with diplomats from the UN Globe and the State Department’s Open List also taking part.
